Independence Day. Below are some quotes from prominent and influential Americans of the past. There is a lot to be learned about how far we have come, and perhaps we can see how far astray we have gone from what our Founding Fathers intended for this country. These are men vastly more intelligent than I am, and can only continue to pray for our great Country and its future. I am thankful for all of the sacrifices of those who have provided for us a way of life nearer to that which God intended for us; of which, we are closer to that vision than anywhere else in the world. I am proud to be an American, proud to be one of the dwindling number of people in this great Country who aligns my vision of this country with the ideas and principles of the Founding Fathers. I don't believe that these principles are outdated, rather more relevant than ever.
"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." - John Adams

"If ever time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin." - Samuel Adams

"Now more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature.... If the next centennial does not find us a great nation ... it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces." - James Garfield

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here."
Patrick Henry

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." - Abraham Lincoln
